As it is going to run the tread belt, it should be in good condition. Any abnormal noise coming from the motor when it is running may indicate the likelihood of problems in the future.

- When checking out a treadmill, carry out a test run of the treadmill for at least 15 to 20 minutes. The treadmill should not vibrate or make noise.

- The time, distance, speed, heart rate and calories burned or any other information that the treadmill’s LCD is designed to display, should be displayed properly.

- A second hand treadmill’s price will depend on the condition of the treadmill. If the treadmill is in a good condition, the seller is going to ask for a relatively higher price. Try to negotiate the price. If it does not workout then do not shy away from paying the price; after all, you are buying a used treadmill.

- Buy a used treadmill from a retailer who specializes in both used and new treadmills. Most retailers refurbish and repair the treadmills. The advantage is that you get a warranty cover on a used machine. Such retailers have a reputation to keep. Chances are they will sell you a good used machine.
