The Weslo Company

The Weslo Company was founded by Scott Watterson and Gary Stevenson in 1977. The company was started by the two  to finance their college studies. The company grew in size it is now known as Icon Health and Fitness Inc.

It first dealt with household products like kitchenware, tableware, marble products. It was only in the 1980’s that the two founders realized the immense potential of the health and fitness industry. The company had started manufacturing trampolines but very quickly, it graduated to manufacturing other exercise equipment such as treadmills, exercise bikes, home gyms and rowing machines.

The company owners launched their products in the market with the brand name Proform. In 1988 Weider Health and Fitness, another big player in the fitness manufacturing industry acquired both Weslo and Proform.

In 1994, assets of both the Weslo Inc and Proform were sold to Bain Capital of Boston. They gave it the name Icon health and fitness Inc and thus the popular name in the fitness world came into existence. In 1999, the company added another feather in its cap by acquiring the Healthrider and Nordic brands.

Icon Health and Fitness Inc is one of the leading manufacturers of health and fitness equipment in the world today. It has offices and manufacturing facilities in China, Europe and Canada.

It has been producing innovative and state of the art fitness equipment. The company invests a lot of money into R & D activities. It has been consistently increasing its sales volumes.

Icon has now launched its products under brand names such as NordicTrack, Free Motion, EPIC, Healthrider, Reebok, Weider, Image as well as Weslo. Regarding the founders, Scott Watterson and Gary Stevenson, they are still involved with the company and are now serving as Directors of the company. They are based in Taiwan and Japan respectively.
