Smooth 6.45 Treadmill: A Review

Beefing up on the popular 6.25 model, Smooth has launched the new 6.45 with a 60" running zone for tall users among other features at a fairly low price tag. Apart from the longer belt, you get a more powerful motor and a higher user weight capacity. The sound system is optional; you get it with a hundred dollars extra.

You can plug in your Mp3 or CD player and control its volume through an onboard knob. The 2 built-in speakers are excellent.

The unique fitness test monitor lets you track your cardiovascular fitness level over a period of time. It measures your pulse rate in the first minute after workout and thereby determines your fitness level. The faster it drops the better. The 6.45 is equipped with Heart Rate Control and an optional chest strap. The hand grip pulse monitors do a quick and fair reading. If you want a wireless heart rate monitor it will cost extra.

At 240 pounds, the machine is heavy enough for a folding unit and provides good stability. The deck can handle a good 350 lb of user weight, so you can be assured of a vibration free experience.

The patented Swing Arm Shock Absorption System cushions your ankles, knees and hips from impact. Two pivotal arms at the front absorb impact of your stride and less cushioning at the rear give you the much required push start.

The motor is a strong 3.0 HP continuous duty with the drive system controlled by PWM technique found only in high end systems.

The 6.45 is quieter than its predecessor with its silent motor coupled with Whisper Weave treadbelt.

Eight typical workout programs designed by fitness gurus and 3 user defined programs are sufficient for most users. Combine that with 9 different storable user profiles and you get an impressive deal.

The console is decent. Display is on 4 LED windows and shows speed, distance, calories, time and pulse simultaneously. In addition there is a speed profile window that shows the intensity of every stage of the workout.

The warranty is excellent. Lifetime warranty on the motor and frame, 5 years on wear parts and 1 year of free service tells a lot about the quality of this product.

If you have a moderate budget, this treadmill is a steal.
