A Look at Icon Treadmills

The origins of Icon Health & Fitness can be traced back to the year 1977, when Scott Watterson and Gary Stevenson founded the company Weslo Inc. The purpose of Weslo Inc. was to provide financial assistance to the founding members to fund their college education. When it was first set up, Weslo Inc. imported tableware, kitchenware and marble products from the Far East.

In 1979, this company moved in to the field of marketing stoves. The 1980s witnessed the company’s foray in to the fitness industry with the production of trampolines. Soon, the product range expanded to include treadmills, exercise bikes, home gyms and rowing machines, under the brand name of ProForm Fitness Products Inc.

The focus gradually shifted entirely to the manufacture of health and fitness products. In 1988, Weider Health & Fitness Inc. acquired both ProForm and Weslo. In 1994, Weider Health & Fitness sold ProForm and Weslo to a Boston business group. The new name became Icon Health & Fitness Inc. Over a period of time, Icon acquired the brands Health Rider, Nordic Track and Free Motion Fitness.

Presently, Icon is one of the largest and most renowned of treadmill manufacturers and sellers of fitness equipment all over the world. Icon is the first American fitness company to venture into international fitness markets. Icon has facilities that are situated in Canada, Europe and China, apart from the US.
