Desired Features of a treadmill

The New Year is just around the corner. It is the time of the year when people start making resolutions for the things that they will and will not do in the coming year. Very few people manage to stick to their resolves, but that is a different matter altogether. One favorite New Year resolution that people make is to exercise and loose weight. With that in mind, people venture to buy a treadmill and other exercise equipment.

Treadmills are available in an astounding variety of brands, features, gizmos and capabilities. As a prospective first time owner of a treadmill, you may wish to know what features you should be looking for.

One of the first things that you need to consider in a treadmill is the capabilities of the motor. Select a treadmill that has a motor of a good brand. The motor should have sufficient horsepower, should be sturdy and quiet in operation. It should be covered by a reliable warranty.

A treadmill should be able to provide sufficient cushioning when you are running or walking on the treadmill.  Using a treadmill that does not cushion your cushion your knees, ankles and hips may result in stress to sensitive joints and injury.

A heart rate monitor will be able to tell you your exact cardiovascular performance level. The idea of using a treadmill is to increase the rate at which your heart works. Some treadmills are fitted with a wrist heart rate monitor that checks your pulse.

Another nice feature to have on a treadmill is a mileage meter. The gauge tells you how many miles you have covered cumulatively and in a single exercise session.

There are a number of other features in a treadmill. What is important is to make sure that your basic requirements are met.
